With two kids under three and a growing business, routines save me. They set me up for a successful day by increasing my energy and grounding me into a positive state. With a good morning routine, I feel I can take on anything!
Routines are essential for parents but imagine if we could get our kids to do them as well? What would this look like? Kids watch everything we do, so it's a matter of time before they may want to get involved. Here are a few simple routines I use to help get my toddler grounded every morning.
Here are five tips to create a routine and set your kids up for success.
Making their bed allows kids to feel like they have accomplished something straight away to start their day. Plus it ingrains responsibility of taking care of their space.
After a big night sleep, this is so important. Getting kids their special morning ritual cup for water or 'tea' is a great way to increase fluids and set them up for healthy habits.
What are we grateful for on this day? Go over daily activities. This is a great way to connect with kids first thing in the morning and make them aware of the day ahead and get in the habit of gratitude.
Yoga, jumping jacks, anything really. Movement is great for changing our state, so if your little one is complaining, distract them with a quick set of jumps.
Have kids sit down and take 3 deep breaths. This is a great habit to get into as you can implement this when they are having a meltdown or feeling scared or frustrated.
Let’s be realistic though some kids wake up super 'hangry,' if that’s the case get food into them ASAP. Then resume routine. Of course, customise this as needed for your family, but it’s a great way to get kids good habits and feeling in control of their day.
